Introduction

America Scores Bay Area is a non-profit after school program for students to explore extracurriculars. The program is organized by Salesforce that led me to work directly with Salesforce employees during the internship.

The Problem

Due to Covid-19, students switched from in-person to virtual and it has been difficult for them to learn virtually because they were generally used to learning in-person.

Goal

A student’s journey to virtually learn at ease about leading a healthy lifestyle, be engaged and collaborative, and also have the confidence and character to make a difference in the world during Covid-19.

The Process

My process will be different will be determined by many factors such as the project goals, business needs, complexity of the problem, time and etc. Here I’ll describe my process for solving this problem.

Discover

Generate and gather ideas to find user pain points.

Ideation

Create several sketches and potential solutions.

Design

Design mid and high fidelity wireframes.

Test

Test with users to get feedback.

Understanding the Users

I divided the research phase into three parts- research with interviews, brainstorming and analyzing the users. The main aim of the research process was to define the problem and come up with a design statement. This will be the guide for the UI design process.
To identify the pain points I have conducted research and interviews.

1:1 Interviews (Qualitative)

What do you enjoy about this website/app? What do you not enjoy about this website/app?
• On a scale of 1-10 how difficult was the first time you used the website, ScoresU?

Key Findings

Some of the key findings I have found out by conducting the interviews are
• The students are having trouble with typing on the keyboard because they are making more spelling and grammar mistakes compared to writing it by hand on paper.
Students want an interactive way to learn online from the instructor

Ideation

Heuristic Evaluation

Conducted Heuristic evaluation by using Figma of the website and included improvements that could be made on each page.

What I have learned from this project?

The importance of collaborating
        • Collaborating is essential when designing a product because it lets you communicate your ideas and take advice from your peers
        • While working with a team of three I learned the importance of taking feedback from others and improving my design skills.
The importance of User Research
        • While conducting User Research, I learned many things about accessibility. It's important to put first what the user needs.
                - Having the layout of the improved webpage be less clicks. The users (students) don't have to clickon many buttons to find the page they are looking for.
